Financial Services Department releases marketing activities for the first quarter of 2001

The Financial Services Department of the Government of Anguilla in conjunction with the joint Anguilla Financial Services Association (AFSA)/Government of Anguilla (GOA) Marketing and Promotion Committee has released its marketing and conference activities for the first quarter of 2001.

The activities are being led and coordinated by the newly appointed Registrar of Commercial Activities, Mr. Lanston Connor, who is the government's pointman with regards to marketing the ACORN system and Anguilla, along with AFSA, as a financial services jurisdiction in general.

Mr. Connor will travel to Toronto, Canada over the weekend where he will attend on Monday and Tuesday of next week the Offshore ECommerce Strategies Conference. Connor will be part of a panel discussion on the use of offshore centres for ecommerce activities during which he will present a paper entitled: "Anguilla: Ecommerce hub of the 21st century."

Mr. Connor will then travel to Hong Kong to attend the Asia Ebiz Tax 2001 conference being sponsored by the Asia Pacific Offshore Institute. The Financial Services department is a silver sponsor of the event which will feature displays by several offshore jurisdictions including Anguilla and where tax planning using these centres will be discussed in great detail.

Mr. Connor will use the opportunity to highlight Anguilla's zero tax regime and other advantages for the management of wealth including the use of corporate vehicles to conduct international business. He will also demonstrate the ACORN system. Connor's visit is a follow-up to one led by the Minister of Finance last September which introduced ACORN and Anguilla to the Hong Kong business community.

The Government's UK based media relations firm Profile Corporate Communications is coordinating the visit by Connor and will be involved in undertaking extensive media work to maximise the benefits of Connor's activities during the two day event on the 5th and 6th March.

Connor will make a return visit to Uruguay on the 14th and 15th March to attend the 8th World Offshore Convention being sponsored by the Offshore Investment Magazine and the Panamanian law firm Sucre, Arias and Reyes which has a local company management firm here in Anguilla. This will mark Connor's second trip to the event which is considered a must for financial services centres because of the clientele which the event attracts. Once again, ACORN and the benefits of Anguilla financial services product will be on display.

Finally, Connor will attend the International Finance Congress Conference and Exhibition which will be held in Miami, Florida from the 28th to the 30th March. The event will discuss the very latest on Offshore Trust Corporate Planning and Tax and Asset Placement by leading industry experts. It is considered a great opportunity to promote the island's ecommerce advantages and Connor will focus on the aspects of Anguilla's financial infrastructure which deal with this.

In commenting on his extensive marketing activities in just under a 6 week period, Connor stated that: "with the clean bill of health that the KPMG Report has given Anguilla and the Government's intention to make ecommerce and financial services along with tourism the pillars of the island's economic development, the only way this can be achieved is through an aggressive marketing effort which concentrates on the island's benefits in these areas and through detailed follow-up on contacts made and personal communication."

Connor expressed confidence that this posture will lead to benefits being reaped by the island in years to come and as responsibility for marketing the island falls squarely on his shoulders and he feels confortable taking the initiative in ensuring that Anguilla is represented at all major events and thorough marketing activities are undertaken."
